Summer Camps 2010
Athens Creative Theatre will be offering four camp sessions: two 'Encore Camps' for teens age 12-18; and
two 'Theatre Summer Camps' for children age 8-12, who will perform "Little Red Riding Hood" and/or "Through The Looking Glass."
Athens Clarke County residents will be able to register for summer camps on April 10, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at the downtown Classic Center.
Please read the camp descriptions below, along with dates/times/fees.
Encore Camp
This program will provide hands-on experience for teens (ages 12-18) in basic elements of a live theatre production: theatre etiquette and terminologies,
script selection, script analysis, set design, set construction, scenery art, prop management, stage management and performance; in addition to
understanding basic lighting and sound techniques.
There will be one week of teen camp (Monday - Friday, 9:00-3:00) that will precede each of our regular two, two-week summer children's theatre camps
(ages 8-12). Each teen camp will experience the major components involved in a theatre production. Scripts chosen will be read by the teens and then
discussed with the director as to the vision for the production. Teens will then submit set designs and a vision of scenery art; and a design concept will
be chosen based upon merits of: creativity, use of current theatre inventory, feasibility of construction, and practical application with regard to script
storyline. One scene will also be selected for performance. It will be cast, blocked, rehearsed and performed, lit and sound engineered by teens as
culmination of the workshop experience. By this process, the Encore Teens will be immersed in the totality of a live theatre production, providing the
subsequent Children's Summer Theatre Campers with a high-quality, safe and stimulating environment to perform in. This will give the Encore Teens a
realistic investment in the experience of their community theatre, a true appreciation for the collective efforts within various theatre disciplines, and
enrichment to their personal understanding of both process and product.
